In today's fast-paced, modern world, women are often pulled in countless directions, juggling careers, families, and personal responsibilities. Amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life, the need for sacred spaces to honor the divine feminine essence has never been greater.
Enter the Red Tent—a timeless symbol of feminine strength, wisdom, and solidarity. Rooted in ancient traditions and steeped in history, the Red Tent has experienced a resurgence in recent years, offering women a sanctuary to reclaim their power, connect with their bodies, and celebrate their menstrual cycles.

History of the Red Tent
Dating back to Native South American tribal cultures and echoing through various civilisations, the Red Tent was a separate lodge where women retreated during menstruation, pregnancy and childbirth, honored for the cyclical rhythms of life they embodied.
In tribal, pre-modern times without the interference of light pollution, women bled in unison during the new moon phase. During this time, a woman was considered to be more creative and in tune with the spirit world. She would receive messages and gain insights that would benefit her tribe. Men and elders would take care of the children and duties whilst the women bled and rested together. Menstruation was acknowledged by all as a sacred time. And the Red Tent was the sacred space where women could reclaim their power, heal, and nurture one another.

Why Red Tents are Needed in Today's Society
In our modern, masculine-driven society, women's bodies and reproductive health are often shrouded in stigma and taboo. Menstruation, in particular, is frequently viewed as a source of shame or inconvenience rather than a natural and integral part of female physiology. Red Tents challenge these outdated beliefs and promote a more positive and empowered view of menstruation. By creating a supportive and inclusive environment for women to gather, share, and learn, Red Tent circles offer a much-needed antidote to the pressures and expectations of modern life.
What to Expect When Attending a Red Tent Women's Circle
At a Red Tent Circle, expect to find a welcoming and supportive community of like-minded sisters. You may be asked to wear red or the space may be adorned with red fabric to symbolise the sacredness of women's blood. The circle typically begins with a sacred opening ceremony, followed by group discussions, guided meditations and hands-on activities related to the menstrual cycle and women's health. There may also be singing or chanting, dancing and nourishing treats such as a cup of heart-opening cacao.
Topics may include cycle awareness, hormone balancing, menstrual rituals, and self-care practices. Each gathering is unique, but the overarching goal is to create a space where women can feel seen, heard, and supported on their journey of self-discovery and empowerment.
